Benzodiazepines Testing
Benzodiazepines are known as psychoactive drugs and are used to treat anxiety, insomnia, and certain phobias by slowing the central nervous system. Benzodiazepines are classified as a Schedule III drug and are some of the most commonly prescribed medications in the US.
Benzodiazepines Detection
Benzodiazepines drug testing can be done by performing a urine, saliva, hair, or blood test. Each will reveal a different look back period with saliva being the shortest and hair the longest. With a urine test, we usually can see use within 2-3 days, and a hair test will reveal drug use for up to 90 days. Urine and hair testing are the most common tests performed.

Prescription Drug Abuse: Signs, Symptoms and Statistics
Prescription drug abuse implies taking prescription medication was not given to you by the doctor, or taking your prescription medication in a manner that differs from the instructions. While taking prescription medication is not perceived as equivalent to taking illegal street drugs, the consequences can be equally harsh.
Understanding the Opioid Epidemic
It is nearly impossible to go through the day without hearing about the opioid epidemic. From the White House to media outlets, not a day goes by where the American people are not subjected to the latest statistics, the newest court cases, or the most recent treatment option. However, despite the constant coverage and warnings about the crisis, it appears that the full gravity and potential impact of the epidemic is widely misunderstood.
A 10-panel drug test
A drug test for benzodiazepines is not included in the standard 5-panel test. Another common drug test that can be performed is the 10-panel drug test with expanded opiates which includes:
AMP-Amphetamines (MAMP-Methamphetamine, MDMA-Ecstasy), COC-Cocaine, PCP-Phencyclidine, THC-Marijuana, BZO-Benzodiazepines, BAR-Barbiturates, MTD-Methadone, PPX-Propoxyphene, Meth-Methaqualone, OPI-Opiates (including heroin, codeine, and morphine), and expanded Opiates which adds Hydrocodone, Hydromorphone, Oxycodone, and Oxymorphone.
This test with expanded opiates does provide a drug test for barbiturates. Most other drug test panels with 10 or more drugs will include barbiturates in panels such as 12-panel, 14-panel or health care professional panel.

Do You Need A List Of My Medications For A Drug Test?
- Per protocol, the lab techs are not allowed to receive or ask for your medications. A medical review officer or MRO, a licensed physician who specializes in toxicology, will call you and ask for your medications and your physician’s phone number if it’s detected in your sample during testing. The MRO will then call your physician to verify your medications.
