Hair & Environmental Residue Testing for Families, Courts & Agencies
If you’re concerned that a child, teen, or adult has been exposed to illegal drugs — without directly using them — passive exposure drug testing is a vital, non-invasive way to detect that exposure. At Test Smartly Labs, we provide confidential, lab-based passive exposure tests through hair drug testing and environmental surface residue analysis at our locations throughout the Greater Kansas City area.
Protecting your loved ones starts with the truth — and Test Smartly Labs is Kansas City’s trusted partner for getting accurate, court-admissible results fast.
What Is Passive Drug Exposure?
Passive drug exposure occurs when someone is indirectly exposed to illegal drugs or substances without actively using them. This often happens when:
-
A child lives in or visits a drug-contaminated environment
-
Someone breathes in secondhand smoke (e.g. marijuana)
-
There is contact with drug residue on surfaces, skin, or sweat
-
Personal items are shared or touched after drug use
Passive exposure testing is often used in:
-
Child custody and endangerment cases
-
Foster care evaluations
-
Family legal disputes
-
Real estate transfers
-
Workplace and institutional safety checks
Just like secondhand smoke from cigarettes, drug residue and fumes can have lasting effects, particularly on children. This is why early testing and documentation are critical.
Our Passive Drug Exposure Testing Options
We offer two types of tests for detecting environmental drug exposure:
1. “Child Guard” Passive Exposure Hair Drug Test
This non-invasive hair follicle test is ideal for children and teens, requiring no blood or urine samples. It’s often used in:
-
Custody hearings
-
Neglect investigations
-
School or agency reporting
What it detects:
Hair samples can show passive exposure to:
-
Cocaine
-
Methamphetamine
-
THC (marijuana)
-
Opiates
-
Benzodiazepines
-
Fentanyl, oxycodone, and more
Why it’s effective:
Drugs can cling to hair keratin even from minimal exposure — including physical touch with someone who has used drugs.
2. Environmental Surface Residue Drug Testing
This test analyzes surfaces in your home, vehicle, or facility for drug contamination. It’s especially useful when investigating:
-
Suspected meth houses
-
Homes after tenant eviction
-
Real estate transactions
-
Shared custody concerns
How it works:
-
Our trained technicians collect at least four samples from surfaces
-
Samples are sealed, sent to the lab, and tested for illicit drug residues
-
Results are often used in child protective services cases or real estate disclosures
Drugs tested for include:
-
Methamphetamine
-
Cocaine
-
Heroin
-
Marijuana
-
Fentanyl and other synthetic opioids
