Diabetes Screening

6 million. That’s how many people have prediabetes in the United States right now according to the American Diabetes Association. Prediabetes is a condition where the sugar in your blood (your blood glucose level) is elevated, but not to the point that you have a clinical diagnosis of type 2 diabetes. Prediabetes and diabetes are common, yet serious conditions because if left untreated or unmanaged, they could lead to serious health problems. It’s important to get screened for diabetes.

Lab Test for Diabetes Screening

Type 1 diabetes is not due to lifestyle or diet and occurs in 5% of diabetes patients – mostly children and young adults. If you or a doctor want to check and see if you’re at risk for, or if you have, diabetes, here are several blood tests that may be recommended according to the American Diabetes Association. Test Smartly Labs can help with any of these blood draws you may need:

  • A1C – checks average blood glucose for the past 2-3 months
  • Fasting Plasma Glucose (FPG) – no eating or drinking at least 8 hours before the test
  • Plasma Glucose Test – tests blood glucose at any time of the day

Prediabetes may not have any symptoms, and many people don’t even know if they have it. The good news is prediabetes can be reversed with lifestyle changes.

Test Smartly Labs can help provide early warnings. Visit one of our locations in the Kansas City area.
