Who Can Be Tested?
Most relationship DNA tests require at least two biological samples—but testing more individuals from the family tree can improve accuracy. At Test Smartly Labs, we can confirm relationships including:
-
Paternity DNA Testing: Confirms the biological relationship between a child and alleged father.
-
Maternity Testing: Verifies a child’s biological relationship with their mother.
-
Siblingship Testing: Determines if individuals are full or half-siblings.
-
Grandparentage Testing: Helps confirm a parent’s biological relationship through grandparent DNA.
-
Avuncular Testing: Tests the likelihood of a relationship between a child and their aunt or uncle.
-
Twin Zygosity Testing: Determines whether twins are fraternal or identical.
Each of these tests follows rigorous procedures and delivers high-confidence results backed by certified lab processing.
Legal vs. Non-Legal DNA Testing: What’s the Difference?
Non-Legal DNA Testing:
-
For personal use or peace of mind
-
Can be done at home or in a lab
-
Not admissible in court or government proceedings
-
Does not require witness verification or chain of custody
Legal DNA Testing:
-
Used for adoption, custody, immigration, inheritance, and legal documentation
-
Requires a chain-of-custody collection procedure
-
Performed with third-party witnesses and documented identification
-
Admissible in court and official records
At Test Smartly Labs, we are proud to be AABB-accredited, ensuring our legal DNA test results are accepted by courts, government agencies, and immigration offices across the U.S.
Immigration DNA Testing
In immigration cases, biological relationships can serve as critical evidence—especially when documentation like birth records or marriage certificates is unavailable.
The U.S. Department of State accepts the following DNA tests to prove familial connections:
-
Paternity Testing
-
Maternity Testing
-
Siblingship Testing (full or half siblings only)
At Test Smartly Labs, we partner with AABB-accredited laboratories to ensure all immigration-related DNA tests meet U.S. government standards and are fully admissible for visa and consular processing.

How DNA Testing Works
We use non-invasive buccal (cheek) swabs to collect DNA for most relationship tests. Once collected, the DNA sample is analyzed at a certified lab using advanced genetic comparison techniques.
Our Most Common Relationship DNA Tests:
-
Maternal DNA Test
-
Siblingship DNA Test
-
Twins Zygosity Test
-
Avuncular (Aunt/Uncle) DNA Test
-
Grandparentage DNA Test
Our labs examine specific gene variants (alleles) to determine biological matches. When more family members are tested together, the accuracy of the results improves significantly.

Frequently Asked Questions
What Are Your Hours?
All Test Smartly Labs are open Monday through Friday, from 9am – 5pm
Do We Need To Have An Appointment?
No appointment is required to come into our labs, and all of our locations are on a walk-in basis. However, it is recommended you arrive at least 30 minutes prior to closing. If your situation requires special time considerations, please call us to determine if it would be better to arrange an appointment time.
Do I Need Doctors’ Orders For Testing?
No doctors’ orders needed, we are a Direct-Access Testing Center. You are encouraged to consult your medical professional with your lab test results.
What’s The Turnaround Time For Lab Work?
Average turnaround time is 2-5 business days depending on the complexity of the lab work. Most tests are available in 2-3 days.
Do You Need A List Of My Medications For A Drug Test?
Per protocol, the lab techs are not allowed to receive or ask for your medications. A medical review officer or MRO, a licensed physician who specializes in toxicology, will call you and ask for your medications and your physician’s phone number if it’s detected in your sample during testing. The MRO will then call your physician to verify your medications.
