STI stands for “Sexually Transmitted Infection” and STD stands for “Sexually Transmitted Disease”. These two terms sound similar and the difference between them can be confusing. One of the reasons for this is that up to a certain point these two terms were synonymous and were used interchangeably. But now there is a technical difference between these terms which has been acknowledged by the medical community and can no longer be used synonymously.

THYROID TESTING
Thyroid testing is helpful and useful in several situations, particularly by checking blood and imaging. At Test Smartly Labs, we can help with these blood draws. For some, depending on your age and current health status, thyroid testing could be a routine panel that your doctors want included in your bloodwork. For others, it may be recommended if you’re experiencing fatigue or other symptoms of thyroid disease.
What Is The Thyroid?
Your thyroid is a gland that produces hormones, sitting just above your collarbone, shaped like a butterfly. It helps dictate a lot of things, like how fast you burn calories, your energy levels, and your heart rate, playing an important role in your overall health. One of the first signs it’s not performing correctly is fatigue, but there are many other indicators. It’s important to pay attention to your body and work with a doctor if you don’t feel well.
Symptoms of Hyperthyroidism (Overactive Thyroid)
Typically, symptoms for hyperthyroidism vary from person to person. However, the most common symptoms include:
- Irritability
- Nervousness or anxiety
- Fatigue or muscle weakness
- Trouble sleeping
- Shaky hands
- Rapid or irregular heartbeat
- Diarrhea or frequent bowel movements
- Mood swings
- Weight loss
Patients over the age of 60 may have different symptoms, such as withdrawal from people and loss of appetite. If you or someone you know are experiencing any of the following symptoms, then blood-based thyroid testing could be necessary.
If you need blood-based thyroid testing, Test Smartly Labs can help.

Understanding STI vs STD
Privacy Matters for STI/STD Testing at Test Smartly Labs
While all health-related matters deserve the utmost privacy and confidentiality, some types of blood tests and lab work need even more. When it comes to STI or STD testing, you do not want to have any small chance of anyone you know finding out about your risks or diagnoses. Of course, if you go to your doctor’s office or even a public clinic, the HIPAA rules require everyone involved to keep your information private and secure. However, you may still have some doubts troubling your mind.
