Arthritis is a widespread health issue that affects millions of people in the U.S., often causing chronic joint pain, stiffness, swelling, and reduced mobility. According to the Arthritis Foundation, arthritis is “an informal way of referring to more than 100 types of joint diseases” and affects over 53 million adults and 300,000 children in the United States.

If you’re experiencing soreness, stiffness, or tenderness in your joints, arthritis could be the cause. At Test Smartly Labs, we offer comprehensive arthritis screening lab tests to help your physician identify the exact cause and guide your treatment plan accordingly.

Why Is Arthritis Screening Important?

Since arthritis isn’t a single disease but a category of conditions, early and accurate screening is critical for proper diagnosis. Conditions like rheumatoid arthritis (RA), lupus, Sjogren’s syndrome, or Lyme disease require different treatments, so understanding your specific diagnosis through lab testing is a vital first step.

Many types of arthritis involve the immune system attacking healthy joint tissue, which often leaves biomarkers in the blood—making blood tests an effective early detection tool.

Common Arthritis Screening Lab Tests

At Test Smartly Labs, we provide several of the lab tests frequently recommended by physicians when inflammatory arthritis or autoimmune conditions are suspected:

Test Name Purpose
Antinuclear Antibody (ANA) Detects autoimmune disorders such as lupus
Rheumatoid Factor (RF) Identifies rheumatoid arthritis
Anti-Cyclic Citrullinated Peptide (anti-CCP) Confirms RA diagnosis with high specificity
Uric Acid Screens for gout, a type of arthritis caused by uric acid crystal buildup
HLA Tissue Typing Helps diagnose certain autoimmune arthritis types like ankylosing spondylitis
Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate (ESR) Measures inflammation levels in the body
C-Reactive Protein (CRP) Another inflammation marker used in evaluating arthritis activity
Lyme Serology Identifies Lyme disease, which can cause arthritis-like symptoms
