Accurate, Affordable Diabetes and Prediabetes Testing at Test Smartly Labs

According to the American Diabetes Association, over 6 million people in the United States are currently living with prediabetes. Prediabetes occurs when blood glucose levels are higher than normal but not yet high enough for a type 2 diabetes diagnosis. Unfortunately, many individuals are unaware they have prediabetes, as the condition often presents no symptoms. Without proper screening and management, both prediabetes and diabetes can lead to serious long-term health complications such as cardiovascular disease, kidney disease, nerve damage, and vision problems.

At Test Smartly Labs Kansas City, we offer comprehensive diabetes screening services to help detect blood sugar abnormalities early, giving you and your doctor the information needed to begin treatment or prevention strategies.

Why Diabetes Screening is Important

Early detection of diabetes or prediabetes provides a critical window of opportunity for effective intervention. With simple lifestyle changes and medical management, many individuals with prediabetes can prevent or delay the progression to type 2 diabetes.

Our lab testing provides accurate results to:

  • Identify prediabetes or diabetes early

  • Monitor ongoing blood sugar control

  • Assist physicians in diagnosing type 1, type 2, or gestational diabetes

  • Establish a baseline for long-term diabetes management

Diabetes Lab Tests Available at Test Smartly Labs

The following tests are commonly recommended by the American Diabetes Association to assess blood sugar levels and screen for diabetes:

  • A1C Test: Measures average blood glucose levels over the past 2 to 3 months.

  • Fasting Plasma Glucose (FPG): Requires fasting for at least 8 hours prior to testing.

  • Random Plasma Glucose Test: Can be performed at any time of day, regardless of when you last ate.

These tests allow healthcare providers to evaluate both short-term and long-term blood glucose control.

Types of Diabetes

  • Type 1 Diabetes: An autoimmune condition that typically develops in children and young adults; accounts for approximately 5% of all diabetes cases.

  • Type 2 Diabetes: The most common form, usually linked to lifestyle factors such as weight, activity level, and family history.

  • Prediabetes: Elevated blood sugar levels that fall just below the threshold for diabetes; may be reversed through early lifestyle interventions.

When to Consider Diabetes Screening

Diabetes and prediabetes often develop silently. You should consider screening if you:

  • Are overweight or obese

  • Have a family history of diabetes

  • Are physically inactive

  • Have high blood pressure or cholesterol

  • Experienced gestational diabetes during pregnancy

  • Have polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS)

  • Experience symptoms such as increased thirst, frequent urination, blurred vision, or fatigue

Because diabetes can progress without symptoms, regular screenings are recommended for adults beginning at age 35 or earlier if you have risk factors.
