Testosterone is more than just the “man hormone.” It’s a vital hormone for maintaining muscle mass, bone strength, sex drive, mood, and energy. If you’ve noticed a dip in motivation, strength, or libido, low testosterone (Low-T) may be the cause—and Test Smartly Labs, with five convenient Kansas City metro locations, can help you get fast, accurate answers.
Whether you’re looking to optimize health, investigate symptoms, or track hormone therapy progress, we offer comprehensive testosterone testing for men of all ages.
Why Is Testosterone Important?
Produced primarily in the testes, testosterone plays a vital role in:
-
Muscle development and bone density
-
Sexual health and sperm production
-
Mood, motivation, and cognitive performance
-
Red blood cell production
-
Metabolic health and fat distribution
As men age, testosterone levels naturally decline—starting as early as age 30. But for some, the drop is more drastic, leading to Low-T symptoms that interfere with quality of life.
Signs You May Need a Testosterone Test
If you’re experiencing any of the following symptoms, it may be time to get tested:
-
Fatigue and low energy
-
Decreased libido or erectile dysfunction
-
Loss of muscle mass and strength
-
Weight gain or increased body fat
-
Depression, irritability, or poor concentration
-
Hair thinning
-
Trouble sleeping or lack of stamina

What’s Considered a Normal Testosterone Level?
According to the American Urological Association, the normal total testosterone range in adult males is approximately 270 to 1070 ng/dL, with 400–600 ng/dL often considered optimal for men under 50.
Low testosterone (hypogonadism) is typically diagnosed when levels fall below 300 ng/dL. However, symptoms can occur even within the “normal” range depending on age, SHBG levels, and other hormones.
Symptoms of Low Testosterone
Low-T affects far more than sexual function. Here are some common symptoms to watch for:
Physical Symptoms:
-
Low stamina and frequent fatigue
-
Loss of muscle mass, especially in the upper body
-
Increased belly fat or gynecomastia
-
Bone pain or risk of osteoporosis
Emotional/Mental Symptoms:
-
Depression or sadness
-
Brain fog and memory issues
-
Irritability and decreased motivation
Sexual Health Symptoms:
-
Reduced libido
-
Difficulty achieving or maintaining erections

What’s The Turnaround Time For Lab Work?
Average turnaround time is 2-5 business days depending on the complexity of the lab work. Most tests are available in 2-3 days.
Do You Need A List Of My Medications For A Drug Test?
Per protocol, the lab techs are not allowed to receive or ask for your medications. A medical review officer or MRO, a licensed physician who specializes in toxicology, will call you and ask for your medications and your physician’s phone number if it’s detected in your sample during testing. The MRO will then call your physician to verify your medications.

Understanding STI vs STD
STI stands for “Sexually Transmitted Infection” and STD stands for “Sexually Transmitted Disease”. These two terms sound similar and the difference between them can be confusing. One of the reasons for this is that up to a certain point these two terms were synonymous and were used interchangeably. But now there is a technical difference between these terms which has been acknowledged by the medical community and can no longer be used synonymously.
Privacy Matters for STI/STD Testing at Test Smartly Labs
While all health-related matters deserve the utmost privacy and confidentiality, some types of blood tests and lab work need even more. When it comes to STI or STD testing, you do not want to have any small chance of anyone you know finding out about your risks or diagnoses. Of course, if you go to your doctor’s office or even a public clinic, the HIPAA rules require everyone involved to keep your information private and secure. However, you may still have some doubts troubling your mind.
