Comprehensive GI Health Screening at Test Smartly Labs
The gastrointestinal (GI) tract plays a critical role in digesting food, absorbing nutrients, and eliminating waste. It includes multiple organs working together, starting from the mouth, esophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine, and rectum. While occasional GI discomfort such as gas, bloating, or diarrhea is common, frequent or persistent digestive issues may signal an underlying gastrointestinal condition that requires evaluation.
At Test Smartly Labs Kansas City, we offer convenient, affordable lab testing to help identify GI disorders, providing important information to support your healthcare provider’s diagnosis and treatment.
Why Gastrointestinal Testing is Important
Gastrointestinal disorders can significantly affect your daily comfort, nutrient absorption, and long-term health. Early detection allows for faster treatment and helps prevent complications. Because many GI conditions have overlapping symptoms, lab testing can help narrow down potential causes and guide further diagnostic steps.
Types of GI Testing We Offer
There is no single definitive test to diagnose gastrointestinal disease. However, several blood panels and screenings can reveal indicators of potential GI issues. These include:
Common Blood Tests
-
Pathogens Panel: Screens for bacterial or parasitic infections contributing to GI symptoms.
-
Liver Panel: Evaluates liver function, which can impact digestion.
-
Celiac Disease Testing: Screens for gluten intolerance and autoimmune reaction.
-
CBC (Complete Blood Count): Detects anemia, infection, or inflammation.
-
CMP (Comprehensive Metabolic Panel): Evaluates kidney and liver function, electrolyte balance, and overall metabolic health.
Indigestion Panel (Specialty Panel)
Our indigestion panel combines several key markers to help screen for GI disorders:
-
Amylase
-
Lipase
-
CMP14 (Comprehensive Metabolic Panel)
-
Gastrin
-
Helicobacter pylori Antibodies (H. pylori IgG)
These tests may assist in detecting conditions like pancreatitis, ulcers, H. pylori infection, and other upper GI issues.
When Should You Consider GI Lab Testing?
If you experience frequent or severe digestive symptoms, GI testing may be appropriate. Symptoms that warrant testing include:
-
Heartburn or acid reflux
-
Persistent nausea or vomiting
-
Difficulty swallowing
-
Constipation
-
Diarrhea
-
Abdominal pain or cramping
-
Bloating or excessive gas
-
Incontinence
-
Unexplained weight loss or weight gain
If any of these symptoms persist, consult your physician, primary care provider, or gastroenterologist. Your physician may also recommend additional tests such as physical exams, imaging studies, or endoscopy procedures to further investigate your condition.
