Reliable Avuncular Testing for Legal and Personal Use
When a biological parent is unavailable, unwilling, or deceased, avuncular DNA testing—also known as aunt and uncle testing—can offer reliable insight into a family relationship.
At Test Smartly Labs, we provide fast, confidential, and court-admissible avuncular DNA testing in Kansas and Missouri. Whether you need results for legal proceedings or peace of mind, we’re here to help with accurate testing and expert guidance.
Why Get an Aunt or Uncle DNA Test?
Avuncular DNA testing is used to determine whether a person is biologically related to a suspected aunt or uncle. While this test doesn’t directly prove paternity or maternity, it can strongly confirm or refute a biological relationship—especially when a parent is not available.
This type of test may be useful in cases involving:
-
Deceased or missing biological parents
-
Adoption or guardianship disputes
-
Family reunification
-
Immigration documentation
-
Legal proceedings related to inheritance or custody
Including the child’s mother (or known parent) in the test sample can significantly improve accuracy.
Legal Avuncular DNA Testing Services
At Test Smartly Labs, we are a certified AABB partner, meaning we meet the highest national standards for legal DNA testing.
Legal avuncular testing requires:
-
In-person collection at our lab
-
Witnessed sample collection (buccal swab from the cheek)
-
Chain-of-custody documentation to preserve sample integrity
-
Valid photo identification and signed authorization forms
Results from legal avuncular tests are admissible in court and can be used for official purposes, including custody, adoption, and estate disputes.
Y Chromosome DNA Testing
If both individuals being tested are biological males, a Y Chromosome (Y-DNA) test can be an effective way to verify a direct paternal line. The Y chromosome is passed unchanged from father to son, making it an excellent tool for confirming relationships between:
-
Father and son
-
Brothers
-
Uncle and nephew
-
Grandfather and grandson
Can Females Use Y-DNA Testing?
Yes. While females do not possess a Y chromosome, a known male relative (like a brother, father, or uncle) can submit a sample on the female’s behalf to test suspected male relatives.
Y-DNA testing is particularly helpful in cases of:
-
Paternity disputes
-
Male-line genealogy
-
Missing father situations
-
Immigration or legal family matching

Frequently Asked Questions
What Are Your Hours?
All Test Smartly Labs are open Monday through Friday, from 9am – 5pm
Do We Need To Have An Appointment?
No appointment is required to come into our labs, and all of our locations are on a walk-in basis. However, it is recommended you arrive at least 30 minutes prior to closing. If your situation requires special time considerations, please call us to determine if it would be better to arrange an appointment time.
Do I Need Doctors’ Orders For Testing?
No doctors’ orders needed, we are a Direct-Access Testing Center. You are encouraged to consult your medical professional with your lab test results.
What’s The Turnaround Time For Lab Work?
Average turnaround time is 2-5 business days depending on the complexity of the lab work. Most tests are available in 2-3 days.
Do You Need A List Of My Medications For A Drug Test?
Per protocol, the lab techs are not allowed to receive or ask for your medications. A medical review officer or MRO, a licensed physician who specializes in toxicology, will call you and ask for your medications and your physician’s phone number if it’s detected in your sample during testing. The MRO will then call your physician to verify your medications.
